Sac Taco Fest Turns Up the Heat with “Battle of the Taco” Tournament
Nominations Now Open for Sacramento’s Ultimate Taco Showdown, Sept. 20
SACRAMENTO - Calling all taco lovers! Sac Taco Fest is back and it’s bigger, bolder and tastier than ever. This year's festival debuts “Battle of the Taco”— a bracket-style tournament where the public can nominate their favorite local taquerías for a shot at glory. Nominated vendors will battle it out online and public vote, with the winner crowned at the festival.
Nominations are open now and close June 15. The official tournament bracket will be released on July 1. To submit a nomination, visit www.sactacofest.com.
“We’re excited to showcase vendors on the biggest stage yet, uncover new local favorites, connect with new audiences, and share the flavors that define our community,” said Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes. “Sac Taco Fest is a powerful celebration of our culture and entrepreneurial spirit.”
“This festival is so much more than just another food event,” said Councilmember Eric Guerra. “It’s about honoring our community’s taco makers and creating a space where culture, competition, and celebration come together.
Throughout the voting period, there will be pop-ups at Taco Plaza in District 3, all building up to the big day when the Battle of the Taco tournament concludes at the annual Sac Taco Fest. The all-day, gated street festival in District 2 will transform the area into a vibrant celebration of food, culture, and community, featuring top vendors, craft beer and spirits, live bands, DJs, and fun for the whole family. Sac Taco Fest’s mission is to celebrate and support the small businesses and neighborhoods that give our city its unbeatable taco culture.
“This festival is exactly the kind of inclusive, community-powered celebration that makes Sacramento special,” said Councilmember Roger Dickinson. “I’m proud to host Sac Taco Fest in District 2 and support the vendors, artists, and residents who make it all possible.”
“Sacramento Taco Fest 2025 is more than a celebration of culture; it’s a powerful economic driver for our local small businesses,” said festival sponsor, Cathy Rodriguez, President & CEO of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “As a supporting partner, the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation is proud to champion events that spotlight our entrepreneurs, boost neighborhood vitality, and build lasting opportunities for growth in our diverse communities.”
